Naming
▼
Rise Up uses a traditional naming system! This means our cats are named after their appearance, skills, and personality. When you look at a name, it should automatically give you a glimpse of that character's appearance and what they're good at, or what they're like!
If I say Sparrowface, you know that's a very attractive brown cat, and if I say Sandclaw, you know that's a ginger or cream cat that could totally mess you up. Keep this in mind when choosing your name!
Because kittens are born with their eyes closed, they wouldn't be named after eye-color. Because their fur has not yet grown out, they definitely wouldn't be named after their pelt quality or length. They wouldn't be named after the amount of noise they make, and they definitely wouldn't be named after a near-death experience.
Acceptable names are fauna and flora found in Europe; Native plants and animals, as well as extremely common garden plants, herbs, trees, etc. When in doubt, ask yourself, "Could I find this thing where the clans live, and does the cat look like it?" If the answer is yes; go for it!
Avoid extremely vague names like 'Bird' and 'Leaf'. Birds can come in any variety in color. Instead, try to be more specific and name your cat after a kind of bird, such as a sparrow, finch, or crow. Leaf, Petal, Rodent, Dog, etc are all names that suffer from being too vague to properly describe a kitten's appearance.
Some prefixes are forbidden. Sun, Moon, Star, Thunder, River, Shadow, and Wind are all sacred to the Clans.
Suffixes are given to a young cat when they finally become a warrior. As a result, suffixes rarely correlate with the prefix. Cats named Rainstorm probably weren't named that because they were 'dark grey like a rain stom'- because that's just their prefix! -Storm would have to come from a strong and unpredictable personality!
We're willing to be liberal with a cat's suffix. It should accurately portray a skill, personality, or some sort of appearance, and if you can reasonably link this portrayal, we're willing to work with you.
You want 'Crow' as a suffix? Well, what a crows known for? I'd say being witty and clever would be a good example- so sure, name your character Blankcrow. Have a character that's known for their hot temper and passionate belief? Blaze works! Go for it! Have a cat who's an incredible fighter, and don't feel like using the more traditional -claw? Talon, strike, and thorn can all work!
Avoid suffixes that reference your character's hopes, dreams, or past struggles. They should focus on what your character has accomplished, what they are, or what they look like- not their future.
Renames only occur during an elder ceremony, or when the warrior wants a rename. Otherwise it's an insult, and would never be tolerated by a clan. Remember lostface? Yeah, that probably wouldn't happen.
Renames must be specific to the area damaged. A name like Lostwing isn't specific at all! Did you lose your ability to run? Jump? What was damaged? Rather, twistedleg, twistedfoot, mangledfoot, etc, are more fitting names!
Renames can be very creative, but should, as mentioned above, be fairly specific. Do some digging and find something you like, that gives everyone a good idea of the damage done!

Prefixes
▼
Prefixes are the first half of the name. Because kittens are named at birth, and most kittens don't really... DO anything, the prefix describes the kitten's fur color, pattern, or size. Because kittens are born with their eyes closed, they wouldn't be named after eye-color. Because their fur has not yet grown out, they definitely wouldn't be named after their pelt quality or length.
